One Week Training Programme of Year 2006 

The Tribal Research Institute conducted One Week Training Programme on “Food Preservation and Conventional Cooking Method” from the 22nd to 29th November, 2006 at TRI office. Fifty one trainees participated in the programme with three Resource Persons namely : (i) Shri Takhellambam Sanajaoba (ii) Smt. Ksh. Vedmani Devi and (iii) Usham Samati Devi.

The inaugural programme was graced by Shri K. Daimei, Deputy Director, TRI, Imphal. Shri P.C. Lawmkunga, IAS, Principal Secy. (TD/Hills), Govt. of Manipur and Shri L. Thangtawn, IAS, Director (TD) graced the valedictory function as the Chief Guest and the President respectively. Certificates of participation were distributed to the trainees.


At the end of the Training, interaction & discussion was done among the participants and had put up the same to the authority on the following points:-

  •  (i) To implement such training programme at district level as well.

  • (ii) To fund Self Help Groups for Small Scale Cottage Industries.

Three Day Training Programme of Year 2008 

A Three Day Training on “Micro-Finance for STs” was conducted by the TRI from 20th to 22nd February, 2008. Mrs. N. Guite, AGM, NABARD, Smt. B. Jaisri Devi, Project Officer, NCUI, Dr. K.I. Meetei, Faculty, ICM (Institute of Co-operative Management), Shri K. Saratchandra Singh, Faculty (ICM), Dr. Kh. Somendro Singh, Faculty (ICM), Shri Yaiskul Singh, Senior MANAGER, Manipur Rural Bank and Dr. H. Kamkhenthang, Director (TRI) presented papers on different topics of Micro Finance. The papers presented by the resource persons are enclosed as Annexure-D.

In its continued efforts to preserve Tribal cultures and for the welfare of tribals the following programmes are being taken for the year 2007-08. The programmes could not be implemented during the year itself for delayed receipt of Central share.

Three Day Training Programme of Year 2009 

1. A 3 Day Training on Management & Availability of Credit to ST Entrepreneurs was held on 24-26 September, 2009 at TRI Conference hall Delegates from 5 hill districts attended the program. Five resource persons from ICM led by its Principal took training classes. Various topics were discussed and encouraged the tribal entrepreneurs.

2. Another seminar on Scheduled Tribes & Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition Rights Act of 2006 was held on 8th December, 2009 at TRI. Mr Mani Charenamei, Ex-MP graced the Inagural Function and also acted as Resource person. Smt (Dr) Praiyadarshni M. Gangte presented paper on Tribal Forest Rights Act, 2006 & Traditional Forest Rights of Tribals in the 1st session. The afternoon session was moderated by Mr. Th. Oliver Mansang, Officer on Special Duty, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Manipur Campus and the resource paper was presented by Mr. Mani Charenamei, Ex-M.P.

The participants actively took part in the discussion and interaction. They were curious to know the provisions of the Act. The participants put up their recommendation that the same seminar program be conducted at District level so that the concerned people can attend the program for their benefit. 

Mr. S.K. Victor, Consultant, Manipur State AIDS Control Society delivered a talk on the role of community leaders in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS in a 2 Day Seminar on SC/ST Prevention of (Atrocities) Act 1989 at Senapati District Hqtr. on 28th & 29th July 2009.
